Watching birds in Asan Barrage

Asan Barrage -The wet land at Asan barrage is situated near the confluence of two perennial Rivers Asan and Yamuna.

Asan is accessed from Dehradun via Chakrata road leading past the FRI and IMA. The distance is some 40 kms. The birding is opportunities at Asan are Immense. It is useful to arrive by 7 AM as this is when the birds are active.

Birds can be seen are scarlet and longtailed Minivets, Pallas fish eagle.

At the Yamuna river bed- Rudy shelduck, Little Cormorants , Great cormorants, River Lapwing, Greater  thick knee and Little Ringed Plover and many more.

This area is a combination of deep water areas as well as shallow belts and mud flats.
